Blastek Hosts Explosives Laboratory for University of Saskatchewan Geology Students

Dundurn, SK — October 23, 2025

Blastek proudly hosted an Explosives Laboratory class for the University of Saskatchewan’s Department of Geology, offering students a rare hands-on look into the science and practice of blasting operations.

A total of 18 students and one professor participated in the session, which showcased a range of detonation systems including electrical, non-electric, and shock tube initiation methods. Under professional supervision, participants observed the controlled detonation of various systems and learned about the tools, safety measures, and procedures involved in modern surface blasting.

The instructional component of the session covered key topics such as explosives legislation, initiation systems, field tools, and equipment used in surface blasting operations. This combination of classroom learning and live demonstration provided a comprehensive understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of blasting.

The program concluded with a safe and successful field demonstration, reinforcing Blastek’s commitment to education, safety, and the responsible application of explosives technology in the field.

“This type of real-world exposure is invaluable for students preparing to work in the geosciences and resource sectors,” said a Blastek spokesperson. “We’re proud to support educational experiences that connect academic learning with industry practice.”

Blastek plans to continue fostering partnerships with academic institutions to expand training opportunities and promote safe, professional blasting practices across Canada.
