BLASTEK Train 3 RM: Advancing Explosives Safety in Saskatchewan’s Rural Municipalities

Big River, SK — November 15–16, 2025

This past weekend, the town of Big River in Saskatchewan played host to a vital initiative aimed at enhancing safety in the province’s resource sectors. BLASTEK, Saskatchewan’s unique and specialized explosives training business, delivered its Train 3 RM Basic Explosives Safety Course, focused on empowering workers and communities across the province’s Rural Municipalities (RMs).

A Groundbreaking Training Event

Held over two days, the course welcomed participants from various RMs, including industry professionals, municipal workers, and safety officers. The curriculum was designed to provide foundational knowledge in explosives safety — covering essential topics such as handling procedures, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, transportation and emergency response.

BLASTEK’s experienced instructors brought real-world insights to the classroom, combining theory with practical demonstrations to ensure participants left with actionable skills and a deeper understanding of the responsibilities tied to explosives use.

Why It Matters

Saskatchewan’s rural municipalities are home to vital industries such as mining, construction, and resource extraction — sectors where explosives are often a necessary tool. However, with that necessity comes risk. BLASTEK’s mission is to promote a culture of safety and awareness, ensuring that those who work with or around explosives are properly trained and equipped to do so responsibly.
By bringing this training directly to communities like Big River, BLASTEK is helping to close the gap in safety education and provide accessible, high-quality instruction where it’s needed most.

A One-of-a-Kind Saskatchewan Business

BLASTEK stands out as one of the only training providers in the province dedicated exclusively to explosives safety. Their mobile training model allows them to reach remote areas, making it easier for rural municipalities to access critical education without the need for long-distance travel.
Looking Ahead

With the success of Train 3 RM in Big River, BLASTEK is already planning future sessions across Saskatchewan. The company remains committed to supporting the province’s workforce and ensuring that safety is never compromised.
